RMA Information

The following facts provide a modest insight into what, and where, the Murupus Academy is:

  • The Murupus Academy is located in the West Pokot District of Northwest Kenya.
  • The district has 293 schools; 273 are primary and 20 are secondary. The Murupus Academy has ranked #1 in testing since 2001.
  • The school was established in 1994.
  • The school has approximately 240 students; about 70 students are pre-schoolers. Several sudanese orphans also attend the school, and around 30 students are boarders.
  • Rev. and Mrs. Murupus dedicated 5 acres of their 21 acre farm to the school. The school has a faculty of 12 teachers and a support staff of 10.
  • The school day begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:00 p.m.
  • The school is governed by a Board of dedicated, well-educated individuals.
  • Annual tuition to the Academy is approximately 12,000 Kenya Shillings (about $160). Students who board at the school pay an additional 21,000 Shillings ($280).
  • The school realizes some additional income from the sale of farm products such as maize and coffee beans.
  • Average teacher salaries range from $100 to $160 per month.
  • The school campus does not have electricity, so all educational programs must take place during daylight hours. The school hopes to connect soon to the national electrical grid, provided they can secure the necessary funding.
  • The school also must provide the students with clean water.
